ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – TMA Education Foundation awarded John Hersey High School almost $9000 last week to help the technical education department buy a new lathe and mill for student training.
Rich Hyde, the Engineering and Manufacturing instructor, said the machine will give Hersey students the opportunity to run milling and turning equipment manually – something he’s seen a need for more to do.
“As the instructor, I have seen a need for machinists to have manual machining skills from local businesses and believe these machines are at a price point to allow this program to provide these learning opportunities,” Hyde said.
TMA’s Education and Training Manager Leigh Coglianese joined TMA Education Foundation Board member Tim Doran of TriState Machinery in delivering the check.
