There’s no doubt the historically-huge manufacturing job creating Illinois could have done better, but in 2017, the Land of Lincoln came in 9th among the top job creators in 2017.
The nation’s top state was way ahead of the others. Texas manufacturing grew by 36,000 jobs last year while Illinois grew by 7,700 jobs.
Illinois’ neighbors to the direct west and north easily out-numbered Illinois – Iowa at 11,700 jobs and Wisconsin at 11,500 manufacturing jobs.
The National Association of Manufacturers reports unemployment at 4.1 percent, the lowest since 2000.
